This is a phase of diverging, opening up to possibilities, combining various forms of research to gain a deep understanding of the market, the competitors, and the end-user. The finding phase starts with the formulation of a business challenge and ends with a strong ‘customer insight’ – a deep truth for the end-user that touches upon his or her motivations to engage in certain behavior. Customer insight is the guiding principle for the phases to follow.
